Lost An Account? Here's How a Channel Ambassador Wins It Back, And Then Some!

Published September 28th, 2026 by Ambassador Foods

At Ambassador Foods we have long-standing relationships with some pretty big distributors.

For them, a Channel Ambassador plays several roles… We act as a sourcing partner, wholesaler, importer, marketer and as front-line support for their overworked sales teams.

While working alongside one such team we noticed that a long-standing independent supermarket account had quietly shifted about 40 cases a week of Swiss cheese business over to a competing supplier.

There was no big announcement. No one got a phone call or even an email. Just one day, the orders stopped showing up.

Most reps or brokers would've done the obvious thing… pull up a price sheet, shave a few points, and beg to buy the business back.

That's not how Channel Ambassadors operate.

Instead of racing to the bottom on price, our team focused on a much bigger question: What would it take to build a stronger value proposition for that customer?

How could we make switching back a no-brainer decision for the retailer, without slashing profits for the distributor?

We had the right product to do it. Ammerlander High Cut Swiss Cheese from Germany offered the quality and consistency the customer was looking for. And the economics could be structured to work in the customer's favor too.

We could be compellingly competitive, as long as we offered added value along the way.

Rather than sit back and wait for the customer to come around, our team built a promotional program from scratch, one designed to support both the distributor's sales force and the retail customer directly.

It was a ballsy, proactive move… There was training. There was education. There were point-of-purchase promotions. There was an immediate, tangible advantage for the customer that went way beyond the price point.

That's the difference between selling a product and building a sales program. One might get you an order, the other builds trust and earns business back, for the long term.

It wasn’t just 40 cases of cheese, on the line.

This wasn't just about winning back volume or selling another case of Swiss cheese. It was a chance to show the retail customer and the distribution partner exactly what separates Ambassador Foods from any other channel partner.

It was proof that Ambassador Foods would reach out and invest in the customer's success, protect margins across the board, and show up with solutions instead of excuses.

By pairing a better product with real promotional structure and proactive, hands-on support, the team gave the end customer a reason to reconsider their new supplier that came in with nothing but a slightly lower price point.

The real win wasn't the cases. It was the bond.

The volume came back, but that's not the part of this story that matters most. What mattered is that the customer, the distributor, and Ambassador Foods walked away with an undeniable bond. It was a win-win-win deal.

Cases like this reinforce something that we believe—something at the core of Ambassador Foods; We don't just sell a product and disappear. Our team listens and looks for new opportunities. We invest in our customers customers, and we take action when their business needs support.

The goal was never just 40 cases a week. The goal is another lifelong customer who knows that with Ambassador Foods, they have a channel partner in their corner that will go the extra mile to see their business succeed.
